The idea of a cooperative society was found to be the best option because it would benefit all women and it is regulated by the Government which would ensure that the interest of the members is protected. Makueni County Aka Housing Cooperative Society Ltd is registered under the Ministry of Cooperative Development and Marketing as a Women Cooperative Society – Registered on 5th September 2013, registration No. CS/ 14627. Makueni County Aka Housing Cooperative Society Ltd is an autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly-owned and democratically-controlled enterprise. The board of directors and the representatives of the members usually consults freely and extensively on vital issues regarding the investment of members funds. The Society’s aim is to exploit investment opportunities at the Konza Techno City in Malili, Makueni County for commercial purposes. The Konza City is expected to be a sustainable world class technology hub and a major economic driver for the nation with a vibrant mix of business, workers, residents and urban amenities. The Makueni Aka want to be part of this major development. The Cooperative society currently has over 500 members committed towords the cooperatives objectives. The members meet every First Sunday of every month at Nedland Inn, Malili town.
